Water Horse

Stephen Parlato describes his work as “visual puns” with a “double identity of forms”. Images constructed of bits and pieces of the familar are meticulously rearranged into strange, exotic and marvelous new creatures.

The critics have said of his PBS recomended picture book The World That Loved Books, “Every now and then there comes along a book so original, so interesting that every child—and every adult lucky enough to have remained childlike—should read it.”

Mr. Parlato, originally from Levittown, Long Island, New York, resides and works in his studio in Baltimore, Maryland. A graduate of both The Cooper Union School of Art and Architecture and The Maryland Institute’s Hoffberger School of Graduate Painting he is considered one of the foremost collage artists working today.
